Wonderbra!? - One woman's experience with this popular contraption
by Nancy Woods
Before getting on with my life, I needed just one thing. I needed to get my hands on a Wonderbra. The year was 1994 and the Wonderbra was hot; it was English and it could create cleavage where none had existed before. In Portland, Oregon the only place you could get a Wonderbra was at Saks Fifth Avenue, where there was a waiting list 200 names long...

Cuntchat with Inga Muscio
by Leah Bobal
Interview by Christy Hall
"'Cunt' is very arguably the most powerful negative word in the American English language. 'Cunt' is the ultimate one-syllable covert verbal weapon any streetwise six-year-old or passing motorist can use against a woman. 'Cunt' refers almost exclusively to women, and expresses the utmost rancor."
So begins Cunt, a womanifesto that urges women to honor all that is cunt and become the "Cuntlovin' Ruler of Her Sexual Universe." This 277-page book is chockfull of cunt-related wisdom from author Inga Muscio's unique perspective. Her bio relates that Muscio's vernacular is "comparable to that of a merchant marine." Hence the title of this, her first book, and the tough-ass, empowering verbage that peppers its pages...

Wasting - A short story of pill popping wedding jitters

Woman: An Intimate Geography by Natalie Angier (Houghton Mifflin)
Review by Angela Torretta
Buried at the back of Natalie Angier's exuberantly written, visceral tome, Woman: An Intimate Geography, lies the author's only mistake. Angier claims she is a pessimist by nature, a claim belied by the previous 400 pages of her glowing tribute to the female body...

P. J. Harvey's "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea" (Island Records, 2000)
Review by Allison Dubinsky
With "Stories", PJ Harvey lets her mantle of angst slip out the window like so much smoke. Which doesn't mean she's let her guard down - she's as angry as ever - but her anger is tempered by hope rather than fueled by despair. The sleek, straight-locked diva peering out from the cover of her latest album is no longer the dark-eyed banshee flailing snake-like strands of hair over her shoulder on 1993's "Rid of Me"...

"Breasts", a Documentary by Meema Spadola (Elevator Pictures, 1996)
Review by Barbara Bader
When author/filmmaker Meema Spadola set out to gather women's stories about themselves, she invited a couple dozen females for intimate chats in a nice, warm studio filled with an all-woman film crew. Topic: breasts. Result: straightforward, dynamic conversation about the everyday relationships women have with their breasts...
