For articles, columns and news: Please send us a detailed query on your idea. Ideally, we would like to see a nut graph (a few sentences describing what your article will cover), as well as a basic outline of the piece, your potential research sources, and any possible sidebars and/or graphics.

Submission Header
In the upper left corner of the first page, please type:

Mail Submissions
We prefer email submissions, however, if you are mailing a hard copy submission, use a double-spaced 12 pt. font (except poetry). Type on one side of the paper only. Include an SASE or your email address for the editor's response. Hard copy submissions will not be returned so please do not send us your only copy. If we accept your piece, we will ask for it on disk or via email. Please don�t forget to include your name, snail mail and email addresses, phone number and short bio with each submission! If we can�t contact you, we can�t use your work! Address the submission to:

Email Submissions
We prefer email submissions. If you are emailing an electronic submission save your document as a text file and cut and paste the contents into your email message. Do not send attachments. Put the name of the appropriate editor and the topic of your piece in the subject of your message. (e.g. "A&E: Breast Cancer essay") Please don�t forget to include your name, snail mail and email addresses, phone number and short bio with each submission! Word Count
A precise word count will be assigned by the editor upon selection of a query or submission.

- Features - 1,000 to 3,000 words
- News articles - 750 to 1,500 words
- News briefs - 100 to 300 words
- Columns - 1,000 to 1,500
- A&E - variable by genre, assigned by editor
- Poetry - No more than:
   - three poems, twenty five lines each, maximum
   - ten haiku


Artwork
The following styles are accepted:

- color photos
- black & white photos
- black & white line illustrations

We accept line drawings and photographs. All artwork must be clean and clearly presented - intricate detail or excessive shading may be lost in reproduction. You may submit jpegs via email to [email protected] or send hard copies to: Nervy Girl Editors, PO Box 16601, Portland, OR 97292.

Story illustrations are 3" x 3" and may be reduced. Cover illustrations are approximately 8" x 11".
